Default Bing Search in Middle East

Hi, We run an exclusive business portal for Middle East (UAE Based)

The statistics reveal some interesting facts. Compared to MSN the traffic from Bing has increased 5 folds for data compared to last year.

I had compared the traffic from Bing September 8, 2009 - October 8, 2009 to traffic from MSN September 8, 2008 - October 8. It clearly indicates that the Arab world is using Bing for their searches.

Here is the statistics for BiznessUAE

BING September 8, 2009 - October 8, 2009 813
MSN September 8, 2008 - October 8, 2008 157

Will update this thread every month based on your interests.

This is a really interesting observation and the updates would be really welcome. I don't know what industry you are in, but is it possible to let us know the numbers of these searchers that actually ended in a sale, enquiry or other success related action?

I'm convinced that last month was a special month for Bing, as it was the time they whet the apetite of the general public. This resulted in a huge number of 'parttime' web designers hitting the site (as the bing forum is testemony too) looking for hits that they just can't get anywhere else ... a kind of gold rush if you will. Your figures will certainly help us to see if the amateur interest has subsided over the next few months.

Al the best

Middle East users seem to like Microsoft products rather than Google. Hope a lot others will use Bing in future.. By the way do they have a separate version for Middle East like Google.ae ?

Hi

Bing is a search engine that finds and organizes the answers you need so you can make faster, more informed decisions.

Bing is celebrity like, while Google is businesslike.

Bing shows you the world, while Google gives you the world.

Bing displays more results for some searches, while Google displays them faster.

Bing is single-tasking, while Google is multi-tasking.

Thanks

Hi guys

Sure I’d hate for a little, impressionable young kid to be exposed to inappropriate content, but, Microsoft, isn’t that what your “Safe Search” feature is for or do you not trust it to work?

Why you need to ban a whole region from searching for explicit-sounding content is beyond me! For those that don’t know, many of the regional governments already block websites they deem morally and politically reprehensible, so this senseless move by Microsoft just crippled the internet even further… I wonder what else the good folks at “we do all sorts of evil” are up to!

Turns out this doesn’t just apply to the Arabic-speaking world, it also applies to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Turkey, Thailand (really!), Singapore, and Malaysia! I’m shocked Indonesia is not on that list, but hey: stupid is, what Microsoft does!

How effective is such a ban? Well, you may recall that Google recently went down this road in China when it caved to pressure from the government and blocked certain search terms. That episode came to a sudden and abrupt end when the Chinese Government decided to hack Google’s servers! Turns out, there’s no honor amongst Censors after all!

Enough of me … Leave a comment below and tell us what you think: is Microsoft right to do this, or should sane adults have more say in what they can and can’t search for!

Thanks
